Blog | Famous Hollywood Glasses Wearers

Some actors become known for the clothes they wear, and sometimes they become known for the glasses they wear during their most famous roles.

Though not all the lenses you see in Hollywood films are functional, there are plenty of famous faces that use glasses in their day-to-day life. Here are just a few of those who are glasses-wearing icons.

Jeff Goldblum has been an icon to glasses-wearers since the first Jurassic Park film hit cinemas in 1993. Playing the unpredictable mathematician Ian Malcolm, Goldblum sported his trademark eyewear throughout the film. His passion for glasses extends beyond his roles, however. Goldblum has gone so far as to design his own fashionable glasses inspired by his breakout role in Jurassic Park. This role was his iconic look for years, inspiring officially licensed video games around the film's release, such as Ocean Software's 1993 release Jurassic Park. The imagery and branding remain popular today, which can be seen in modern mobile games. For instance, the range of online slots from Foxy Games features Jurassic World Raptor Riches, which demonstrates the brand's universal appeal. There are plenty of other examples of games on mobile devices featuring the imagery, such as the Jurassic World game for iOS. Goldblum is still one of the stars of the films, and the wide range of digital media available means he remains an icon to millions of glasses wearers the world over.

This actor is prolific both on stage and on screen. Matt Bomer has appeared in superhero shows like Titans and Doom Patrol, but he has also portrayed one of the most famous glasses-wearing heroes of all time, Superman. Superman has been portrayed in video games ever since the medium has grown into its own over the past few decades, some good and some less good. This doesn't look like it is going to stop anytime soon, as Superman is due to feature heavily in the upcoming Suicide Squad video game by Rocksteady Games. Matt Bomer often wears his own glasses to premiers and in interviews supporting his roles.

The Friends actress has always been known for her fashion even early in her career. From her days as Monica through to her roles in Scream, Dirt, and Cougar Town, Cox has never been far from the spotlight so she has always been setting trends. Her role in Scream often saw her don a pair of iconic sunglasses and she has recently been sporting a pair of glasses on her way to the gym or doing her shopping. One has to wonder if the small round frames she wore during her first outing as Gale Weathers in Scream will make a reappearance in the most recent film when it releases in 2022.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been a mainstay in film and TV since the early 90s when he appeared in movies as a child. His biggest break came in the role as Tommy on comedy Third Rock from the Sun from 1996 to 2001. Throughout his career, he has taken on both comedic and dramatic roles with equal talent and success, making him something of an anomaly in Hollywood. He is often seen in his thick-framed glasses, both in roles and in his day-to-day life.
