Beta-Simplicity, a Singapore startup, helps to manage myopia progression in children by introducing eyeglass frames that complements the design of myopia control lenses. Singapore has one of the highest prevalence of myopia in the world and due to Covid-19, children are spending more time in front of the screen and less time outdoors. There is an urgent need to address this myopia epidemic as the elongation of the eye is irreversible and may lead to other eye complications at a later age. Glasses fitted with myopia control lenses are the least invasive method with the fewest side effects and the lowest cost to parents. Beta-Simplicity is probably the first company in the world that introduces frames that complements the design of myopia control lenses.

Myopia control lenses have been around for more than a decade and most studies showed that they are able to control myopia progression. In practice, the results are mixed. Beta-Simplicity believes that poor frame fit with myopia control lenses may have contributed to inconsistent myopia control results. A Japan study has shown that slipping glasses reduces the near-addition effect of progressive addition lenses for myopia control by up to 63%. Beta-Simplicity aims to address the deficiency of current frame designs for myopia control lenses with the introduction of Myofit eyeglasses frames.

With the wide variety of frame shapes and sizes, eyecare providers generally select frames based on the minimum requirement suggested by the lens company. Beta-Simplicity believes it is important to understand myopia control lenses design and to have frames that complements them.
